AX Desktop 7.0 SP1 and Latest Patch
Installation Instructions
***EMC always recommends having your
entire AX System at the same software version including servers and
workstations***1.
AX 7
Desktop is installed in 3 parts. The the first part is the base AX 7.0 (7.0.260).
The second part is service pack 1 (7.0.1055) and the third part is the
latest patch. When this document was
created we are at patch level 9 (7.0.1064).

First, download the 3 install packages from https://support.emc.com if you don’t have
the software. Once downloaded right
click on each zip file, hit properties, and hit unblock file if the files are
blocked by your Operation System. Next extract
each file.

Install base AX 7.0 Desktop. Run the setup.exe (x86 or x64) from the base
AX 7.0 installation folder you unzipped \Desktop_7.0.260\AppXtender
Desktop\64bit\setup.exe. This may prompt
to install a few prerequisites. If so
just take defaults on the prereqs. Once
the AX 7.0 install starts take the defaults until getting to the Setup Type
page. If the user will just be viewing
documents in AX then just select “Retriever”.
This will install the minimal components (Data source selector and
Document Manager). If the end-user will
be scanning into Document Manager select “Scanning”. After hitting next with the “Scanning” option
selected new windows will come up and ask if you want to install Quick Scan
Pro. This requires a license so if you
don’t have a license for it select no.
If this install is needed for Administration to select the “Administrator”
setup type. This will install everything
except “Index Agent”, “Demo Database”, and “Scanning Capabilities”. If you need any of these components added
select custom setup type and pick everything you need. Very rarely select the complete option
because it does install the “Demo Database” which is not needed in production
installs.

Next, install AX 7.0 Desktop Service Pack 1 (x86
or x64). Navigate to the folder that was
extracted (7.0.1055). \Desktop_7.0.1055\AppXtender
Desktop\64bit\ApplicationXtender Desktop.exe.
Run this and take all the defaults.

Next, install the latest patch (x86 or x64). If you already have a patch installed you do
not have to uninstall it. Just install
the newest patch. For this document, we
are at patch level 9. Navigate to the patch folder you extracted (7.0.1064) and
run the appropriate executable(x86 or x64).
Desktop_7.0.1064\x64\ApplicationXtender Desktop.exe. Take defaults and hit update when it is
ready.
6.
You now are at AX Desktop 7.1 Patch 9. You can verify in add/remove programs. The base AX 7.0 will be listed in the
programs. The Service Pack and Patches
will be listed in installed updates. Please
see below. You will notice the patch version
does not change for the patch in the list.
You are just looking for the “P09” to verify the installation.
